Circus Monoxide recently organised a collaborative circus camp with Warehouse Circus (Canberra), Aerialize (Sydney) and NICA (Melbourne). Over one week young people from our Performance Troupes camped on the beautiful Mt Keira and trained in circus specialities and artistic disciplines. Trainers from all 4 organisations provided unique workshops and NICA’s Certificate IV Co-ordinator delivered a presentation with a question and answer session for the emerging artists and their parents. We also managed to fit in a Zoom meeting between our students and trainers with New Zealand based HiJinx troupe.
At the end of the week the troupes created two acts with the trainers and artistic directors. These acts and some circus roving were performed at the Shellharbour Youth Market
This week was a great opportunity for young people to meet and share their passion for circus. We look forward to growing this camp in future years, inviting other circus and physical theatre troupes to attend, organising more training and information sessions for coaches and students, and performing larger collaborative shows in a festival style format.
