aXis flips perspectives on fundamental issues confronting the human experience. Our intelligent and abstract works explore socio-political issues and drive from a belief in circus with purpose. Circus is at the core of our practice, anchoring our performance style and content, though we also turn around other forms and collaborate in the spaces of theatre, dance, magic, puppetry, opera and live music.
We believe that art is a powerful platform to communicate change, as it has the ability to promote lateral thinking, to present sub-textual and subconscious truths through an abstract visual poetry that influences the viewer. It bypasses the rational need for explanation imposed by verbal language. We create another world which lifts the audience outside of their subjective experience to reframe their objective reality. Our hybrid productions integrate the dramaturgical foundations and psychological layering of theatre, the transcription of embodied meaning through dance and the passionate visual imagery of circus to create a meaningful forum to commune with our audience.
