How to enrol
Adult Circus Classes
-
Adult Circus Classes: Do you still dream of ditching the career for the circus? Are you still wearing the leotard underneath the the work-garb? Did the childhood dream of swinging from the trapeze never quite go away? We want you! Acrobalance, aerial skills; silks, lyra, doubles trapeze, juggling and object manipulation, clowning, performance craft, fitness and flexibility. We hold regular weekly classes for complete beginners through to industry professionals, with master classes and intensives scattered throughout the year as well.
Kids Classes
-
General Circus: Juggling, trapeze, tissu, hula hooping, plate spinning, poi and acrobatics; this class offers a bit of everything. Perfect for those completely new to circus to dabble in everything before you find your forte.
-
Aerial Classes: Get on up there! Focussing on trapeze and tissu (also known as silks), you’ll also get to try flying high on lyra (aerial hoop), rope, Spanish web and Chinese pole. Life’s better upside down.
-
Object Manipulation: Fancy words for fancy juggling; hula hoops, poi, diabolo, spin-sticks, contact juggling. Hold it, throw it, balance it, manipulate that pesky thing.
-
Stilt-walking: Stilt walkers are either really tall or really bouncy. Learn to navigate a festival crowd on tall wooden or aluminium stilts or bounce around on jumpers.
-
Hoops: 101 different ways of looping and hooping around yourself. If one hoop’s easy, try 4. Excellent fun and the best way to keep fit, tone, spin off that excess energy.
-
Equilibristics: We’re so over gravity. Balance is the name of the game here. Learn unicycle, rolla-bolla, slack-rope, walking globe. Become hyper self-aware and learn how to manipulate every muscle individually.
-
Acrobatics and Tumbling: Dash, explode, tumble, somersault, cartwheel and flip. These classes are formed of both individual work and group pyramids and counterbalances.
Pre-School Circus
-
Pre-school General Circus: It looks like a fantastic amount of fun doesn’t it. Who’d know that through this fun kids are learning rhythm, timing, patience, hand-eye co-ordination, team-work and confidence. The benefits are endless and the method to learn is just a barrel of laughs.
-
Music and Circus: As above… but this time you’ll do a trick and then sing a song about it. Kids can sing along as well as play musical instruments between bouts on the soft play assault courses and even the low trapeze! Sing whilst you’re swingin’.
-
In our 2-4 yrs class parents join in with the class; a fun way to learn with your child and help them do things that would otherwise be outside their ability. Our 3-5 yrs class is a chance for children to build confidence and learn independently, while parents watch their growth from the sidelines.
Serious about Circus
-
Serious about Circus: Do you live and breathe circus? Are you prepared to work hard, take your skills to the next level, and get creative? Do you want to perform and really show off the results of your hard work? Serious about Circus is a program for anyone with a deep passion for circus. This class is intended for students who are taking a minimum of 2 other classes each week.
Men's Circus
-
Hombre Diversicus: Chaps, this one’s for you. This circus covers a whole host of different circus disciplines to develop the Illawara’s very own circus of chaps. Acrobalance, aerial skills, juggling and object manipulation, clowning, performance craft, fitness and flexibility. Woah.
Open Training
-
Open Training: After doing Half High classes for at least one term, senior students may be invited to practice or rehearse previously mastered skills during the open training session held each Saturday and at other scheduled times throughout the week. Open Training is also open to industry professionals and community circus artists with a sufficient understanding of their skills. Please contact us for further info.
